The prompt was: ”In early S1, Anna’s ’Confidence, Cohen’ speech does give Seth confidence – to try to start something with his new ’brother’ Ryan”. It ended up being mid-season 1 and the comic book, rather than the speech. The muses work in mysterious ways.

So I'm still really into this Seth/Ryan/Trey brotherhood stuff and even though Trey is probably a goner, I started this before the trouble started and I want to see if I can make it work. Don't own any O.C. related...

I'm starting with short drabbles now and can't seem to get any further. I might do something with this later, but for now I'll just put it out here. It's a little Seth and Summer breakup drabble (unfortunately it feels like it could be any couple though). The O.C. is still not mine.


She was standing in the doorway to his room, her beautiful brown eyes studying him as he looked up from the book he was reading. After a moment of surprise at seeing her, he tilted his head, raised his eyebrows and let a small smile curl at the corner of his mouth stretching his hand out towards her. She didn't move from her place by the door. Those eyes that had held him mesmerized for years just kept calmly watching his face as if committing his features to memory, and looking into them he noticed that something was different. His hand faltered, smile wavering, at the mournful glimmer there that he'd never seen before and even though he couldn't understand exactly why his actions had caused that certain quality, he knew her well enough to realize that this was it. Over. She was breaking up with him.

"Summer, I..." he stood up, but left the sentence unfinished as she approached the bed and put a finger to his lips. She moved her teary eyes to his, silencing him further. Her fingers trailed across his face, through his dark curls and stopped to rest on the back of his neck. It felt like her gaze was sucking all the air out of him and he couldn't breathe, a paralyzing sadness running through him and settling in the pit of his stomach.

"I'm sorry, I can't..." she said, one of her hands moving to stroke the curve of his lips gently, then placing a soft kiss where her fingers had just been, "I'm sorry".

Before he could stop her, she turned around and walked out leaving him stunned and broken. Alone. Like it had always been.

So this is my first little go at this. Just a little drabble/missing scene from "The Brother's Grim" and of course, I don't own the O.C. I'm just fiddling around with it. Also stole a few lines...
